Confidence Comes From Preparedness

Confidence comes from your preparation. It is that simple, but it is hard.

There is no substitute for confidence, knowing that you’ve done the work and put in the time. A big part of confidence comes from building skills. For example, let’s say your athlete feels their least confident with their shooting skills.  It’s time to get reflective and consider:

  1. How many shots am I taking outside of practice?
  2. Am I recording improvement?
  3. Do I have a consistent shooting routine, I do every day?

If the answer to these questions is no then that’s not a lack of confidence issue, it’s a lack of preparation issue. It would be the same as saying “I don’t know what’s wrong with me these days, but I have no confidence in building a house.”

Well, you shouldn’t have confidence building a house. You’ve never had any training to acquire the skills needed to be confident.

The same thing is true for shooting. If an athlete is not practicing shooting daily than they shouldn’t feel confident in their shot and the coach probably doesn’t want them to feel confident in their shot because there is not a high level of skill.

How do you get more confident in your shot?

The hard truth is a basketball player must put in the work. If over the next six months you got up 400 shots a day from game spots and at game speeds, then RBT can all but guarantee you’ll be a more confident shooter…six months from now.
